Housing Benefit
You need to contact Erewash Borough Council if you wish to apply for housing benefit.
There are two ways the Council can pay housing benefit, either to you direct or to us on your behalf, the choice is yours. Benefit is paid to us every four weeks in arrears. This may mean your rent account appears to be in arrears. It is also the reason why we send out the quarterly rent statements after we have received the monthly housing benefit payment.
It is important that you inform the Council’s housing benefit section of all changes in your circumstances because it may affect the amount you receive. Any changes in your favour can only be backdated for one month, so it is to your advantage to inform them as soon as possible.
Housing Benefit cannot pay for any water rates, contents insurance, heating charges and resident-requested garden maintenance.
If you need help in filing in a housing benefit form or need any advice, please contact the Housing Benefit section of Erewash Borough Council on 0845 907 2244. You can also get more information from their website www.erewash.gov.uk/housing/housingfinance/housingbenefits.
