Sheltered Housing
What is sheltered housing?
We have 28 sheltered housing schemes, and 57 semi-sheltered housing schemes. We offer a range of accommodation, including bungalows and flats. The schemes provide comfortable and secure homes where older or disabled residents can lead an independent lifestyle with the support of our Carelink Service and our team of Community Carelink Officers.
Three Valleys Carelink
Every sheltered and semi-sheltered scheme is provided with an alarm system/intercom connected directly to the Carelink Centre where help is available 24 hours per day, every day of the year.
Since September 2003, our Carelink centre has been accredited as a alarm service provider by the Telecare Services Association, meeting Part One of its code of Practice.
The Care Services team
Each resident within a sheltered housing scheme will receive a daily visit from one of our team of Community Carelink Officers. It is the responsibility of each member of the team to be aware of the health and general wellbeing of residents, and they will contact the Doctor, relatives, friends or other services and provide assistance in an emergency.
Those living in semi-sheltered housing receive a periodic visit from a member of the team.
Community Carelink Officers do not undertake day-to-day care of individual residents but, where appropriate, will contact relatives and other agencies to assist if necessary.
Our Community Carelink Officers are on duty between the hours of 8.30 am - 5.00 pm. If an emergency arises, residents are advised to use their intercom systems to contact the Carelink Centre which will provide an immediate emergency response by the on-call duty team.
Communal facilities
Residents living in sheltered schemes with communal facilities have the opportunity to take part in social activities. Residents will be able to make friends and enjoy each others company in the comfort of warm, hospitable surroundings.
Cleaning and refuse
Residents are responsible for cleaning their own flat or bungalow. A cleaning service is provided for the communal areas only. Wheelie bins are provided for residents' refuse which is collected by Erewash Borough Council.
Garden services
A garden service is provided for eligible residents for which there is a weekly service charge.
Service charge
A weekly service charge (which is reviewed every year) is payable by residents living in sheltered housing or linked to the Carelink centre. This charge is currently eligible for Supporting People grant dependent on individual circumstances.
Supporting People
Supporting People is a government programme that aims to help people live more independently and to maintain their accommodation by funding organisations to provide housing related support. A wide range of vulnerable people receive support from Supporting People funded services including people with mental ill-health, people with learning disabilities, older people, people with physical or sensory disabilities, homeless people and families, young people, teenage parents, people with drug or alcohol problems, people at risk of domestic violence, refugees, travellers, and ex-offenders or people at risk of offending.
The Derbyshire Supporting People Partnership is made up of the District and Borough Councils within the County, Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire County Primary Care Trust, Tameside and Glossop Primary Care Trust and the National Probation Service (Derbyshire). These partners work together to agree strategies and deliver the Supporting People programme in Derbyshire.
