How to apply for a home
What do I need to do first?
To apply for a new home, you need to complete a housing application form.
We are in the process of revising our application forms so please call us on 0844 770 3500 or email us and we will send you a form as soon as they are ready.
You will need to read a copy of our allocation policy before you apply for a home. You can download a copy of the allocation policy here.
What will happen after this?
Upon receipt of a completed application form, providing all criteria for eligibility has been met, your application will be processed. Please note that we require any supporting documents at the time that you apply. Please use this handy checklist to make sure you send us all the information we need.
We may return the form to you if it has not been fully or correctly completed.
Your circumstances will be assessed against our allocation policy and we will write to you with details of points awarded.
What do I need to take into consideration?
It is important that you think carefully about the area and type of property you are prepared to consider. High numbers of applicants wanting the same area make such places ‘high demand’, and if you request such popular areas, it is likely that the waiting time will be much longer. You may alter your choice of areas at any time by writing to us or calling at the office.
We allocate our properties on a points system. Informing applicants how long they may have to wait is not easy; it depends on the demand and an unpredictable supply of empty properties becoming available to let. If you have a low number of points in a popular ‘high demand’ area, you may wish to alter your choice to improve your chance of being considered for a property.
Are there any other housing associations I can apply to?
There are a number of housing associations with properties in the area. Download this document for more details.
Important changes about the Housing Application Process
You may have read in the local press that Three Valleys Housing and Erewash Borough Council are joining the Derbyshire Home Options Choice Based Lettings Scheme from January 2009.
This will mean some changes to the way that you apply for housing. All current applicants will continue to be able to apply for properties and Choice Based Lettings will give you more choice. However it will not increase the overall number of properties available and for many property types, waiting times may still be lengthy.
If you are already registered for housing, but no longer wish to be considered, please let us know by 3rd October 2008.
Please:
• phone us on 0844 770 3500,
• email info@threevalleyshousing.com, or
• write to us at Three Valleys House, Bramley Road, Long Eaton, Derbyshire,
NG10 3SX.
If we do not hear from you we will assume that you still wish to be considered for re-housing. We will shortly send applicants who wish to continue to be considered for housing a new application form. We MUST receive this back for you to be considered for re-housing in the future.
We have a fact sheet which answers some typical questions about Choice Based Lettings. If you would like to know more about Choice Based Lettings you can also visit www.home-options.org where you will find further information.
If you have any queries about Choice Based Lettings and how it might affect your housing application, please contact our Customer Contact Team on 0844 770 3500, visit Three Valleys House at the above address or visit our Roadshow Bus which will be in Ilkeston Market Place between 10am and 2pm on the first Friday of every month.
